Christophe Desgouttes is a French visual artist working at the crossroads of fine arts, animation, writing, and digital technology. Since beginning his training in 1985, he has evolved from traditional art exhibitions to pioneering digital media and web-based artistic experiments. He founded DAGOPROD in 2016 to support his independent visual and digital creations. His recent projects explore live film montage, collaborations with artificial intelligence, and surreal artistic universes. Christophe continues to develop his unique blend of drawing, coding, video, and storytelling with an open and experimental spirit.
Christophe Desgouttes' artistic world began with a small character named Dago, created in 1989.
Humorous, surreal, and poetic, his work explores universal themes such as love, war, the infinitely large and the infinitely small, urban life, the human condition, and the meaning of existence — everything that lies between life and death.
Originally illustrated using a Rotring pen, the Dago universe has gradually evolved into a unique 3D world.
Dago is also the inspiration behind the animation studio Dagoprod, which proudly carries his name.
You’ll find this emblematic character at the heart of films, books, and 3DStrips, bringing a distinctive blend of imagination and emotion to every creation.
Books are at the heart of Christophe Desgouttes’ artistic journey. His universe began with the Dagos, hand-drawn characters that first came to life on paper. Naturally, this led to the creation of books — the ideal format to explore and share these poetic and surreal worlds.
From sketchbooks to graphic novels, each publication invites readers into a space where absurd poetry, visual storytelling, and imagination intertwine. Some titles, like "No text, only pictures", rely entirely on images to communicate — making them universally accessible.
Through collaboration with artificial intelligence, Desgouttes pushes the boundaries of his creations even further. His books become a living laboratory where traditional drawing meets machine-generated suggestion, expanding the scope of narrative and artistic exploration.
Amazon has been chosen as the main platform for international distribution, offering global access to these unique and evolving works.
Christophe Desgouttes’ films are inspired by the character Dago: once drawn, he needed to be brought to life, moved, and animated. Film naturally became a key way to achieve this.
These works blend 2D, 3D, and a variety of techniques — some traditional, others cutting-edge, including smartphone technology.
While many films follow classic animation styles, some push boundaries through experimentation:
for example, Lorenume and Flea Market are edited in real time with random sequencing, powered by JavaScript.
No matter the techniques or formats — whether classic or experimental — these films share a core mission: to create and share rich, diverse universes that captivate audiences worldwide.
